James M. Skelly is a partner at Marks, O'Neill, O'Brien & Courtney, and serves as the managing partner of the firm’s New York office.

In 1991 Jim joined Fixler & Associates, which merged with Marks, O'Neill, O'Brien and Courtney, P.C. and distinguished himself as an exceptional trial lawyer. He has handled a wide variety of high-exposure cases, compiling an enviable record of defendants' verdicts for the firm's clients. He has successfully tried cases throughout New York State. Jim's experience includes the defense of medical malpractice cases, labor law claims, catastrophic brain injuries, wrongful death and amputations as a result of automobile accidents, elevator accidents lead poisoning/toxic tort claims and products liability claims. He has also represented public entities and private corporations in Civil rights, harassment, discrimination, ERISA and employment related matters.

In addition to his duties with the firm, Jim has experience as a lecturer for the New State Bar Association and the New State Trail Lawyers Association. His work includes Trial Techniques (2004) and Litigating Closed Head Injuries (2004) for the NYBA and the NYTLA respectively.

Jim has represented doctors, hospitals, nursing homes and labs for over fifteen years. He is experienced in all facets of defense of the Healthcare industry from pleadings through appeal in cases ranging from orthopedic injuries to failure to diagnose cancers.
